After I didn't reach anyone from the guesthouse when I was in Soufriere, I went to the north as planned. There I arrived sometime in the evening during the sunset. The bus didn't stop far from the guesthouse and I just had to walk along the beach with my luggage. But then there was no one at the guesthouse. There were only apartments or rooms, but no reception and no one who was in charge. So I knocked randomly on all the doors and finally someone opened. It was Klaus, also from Germany. He said everyone was there during the day but now everyone is gone... He then wrote a Whats App message to the night security guy, and offered me with a welcome beer. Then he had to leave. So I was sitting with all my luggage in the garden of the guesthouse, it was getting dark and I didn't know if I would spend the night outside or in my room. I was particularly annoyed that under these conditions I could have still stayed in Soufriere and explore a few more things.
I remembered that I had also seen the accommodation at AirBnB and tried to send a message through that channel. That's where I got an answer. The manager explained to me that he recently took over the guesthouse and they therefore have problems with the website and the contact channels. He expected me to arrive the next day because he received my request and answered me that it was no problem. But this message never went out... Well, he gave me a discount for it and shortly after Dysen, the night security guy came and let me in.
The first thing I was told in the north was that it was horrible timing to have flight leaving on a Thursday and missing the weekend in Gros Islet and Rodney Bay. Apparently, it is the party capital of the whole island. This will have to wait for my next St. Lucia visit.
The guesthouse with its location was a perfect choice, a few kilometers left and right of it were hotel resorts, which I would never go to, but this guesthouse was on the edge of the village directly at the sea, with great views and where the locals go. That's exactly what I love.
I had some very nice days in Gros Islet. I found my local favorite bar, the Irie Bar, when I walked by the first evening and everyone was staring at the TV, watching Dawn of the Dead and I was invited to join them. There's a Netflix movie every night. That evening Dyson also told me that it's fullmoon and that at the guesthouse we have great views for that. We agreed that he'd wake me at 3 am to take moon photos. It was very cool. In general, the people there were all super nice, gave me great travel recommendations and we ended up every night having drinks in the bar across the street.
For sightseeing I visited Pigeon Island with its old fort. There I sat on the wall all afternoon, watched the boats and planned my onward journey to St. Vincent.
Also, I had to manage the insurance case of my drone and after sending the log files and details of the damage, I received confirmation that the insurance will cover it and I will get the drone replaced. But FedEx would have charged US$250 to send the drone to Germany. Klaus told me that he decided to end his longer stay in the Caribbean and fly back to Hamburg. He was so kind to take my drone with him and send it to Markus so that he could send it to DJI. That was great and so helpful!
My days in Gros Islet went by much too fast and I would have liked to have given it a little more time - especially to see the party side of the place. But the flight doesn't wait.
At the airport I was called out via loudspeakers and was asked to do a separate security check after checking in my luggage. It turned out you can't have a lighter in your CheckIn luggage. There was one good thing: The security woman was wearing disposable gloves. I asked her if she would throw them away. Then I agreed with her that she would give it to me, so I could finally tint my hair again, which is completely bleached by the salt water and the sun 😉
And so I left St. Lucia and went on to the south. Off to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Love it !!!
And love you lots 😘
Take care of you Steffi mouse
Danke Silvi 🙂
